David Koets, MD, is Medical Director and Chief Medical Officer of The Denver Hospice.  He co-founded and chairs the Colorado Advance Directives Consortium. He is trained in Internal Medicine with 19 years experience in Geriatrics, and is a frequent speaker on hospice and palliative care, advance care planning, and ethics in quality care. He is a member of the American Academy of Hospice & Palliative Medicine, National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, American Medical Association, American Medical Directors Association, Colorado Medical Directors Association, and Colorado Center for Hospice & Palliative Care.  He also chairs the Community Healthcare Ethics Committee. Dr. Koets earned his BA from University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, and his MD from University of Colorado Denver Health Sciences Center. in 2012, he was honored by the Colorado Health Care Association with the Vesta Bowden award for exemplary service and commitment to improving the lives of Colorado’s elders.
